How to Get a Passport Of INDIA
- Apply for a Passport – Register through the Global Passport Service online portal (www.embassy.passportindia.gov.in)( https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in/) (select your country of residence and click on the “Register” link on the home page. If your country of residence does not appear in the Global Passport service online portal, You have to apply for a background check in India i.e. follow the online form submission India process.)
- Login to the Global Passport Service online portal with the login ID created in Step 1.
- Click on the “Apply for GEP background check” link.
- Fill in and submit the required details in the application form
- Click on the “Print Application Form” link to print the application details containing the application reference number (ARN) and other details.
- Check the Indian Embassy / Consulate website to know about the overall background check application submission process for the Global Entry Program (GEP). Visit the Embassy / Consulate Office or Outsourced Service Provider (OSP) (according to the Embassy / Consulate’s application submission process), with the applicable fee of USD 25 and the required original documents.
Online Form Submission (Applicants currently residing in India)
- Register through the Passport Service online portal. (Click on the “Register Now” (https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/user/RegistrationBaseAction?request_locale=en)link on the home page).
- Login to the Passport Service Online Portal with the login ID created in Step 1.
- Click on the “Apply for GEP background check” link.
- Fill in the required details in the form and submit it.
- Click the “Pay & Schedule Appointment” link on the “View saved/submitted applications” screen to schedule an appointment. Online Payment has been made mandatory to book appointments on all PSK / POPSK / PO.
- Pay Online payments can be made using any of the following methods: Credit / Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa) Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) and other banks) UPI payment
- Click on the “Print Application Receipt” link to print an application receipt with the application reference number (ARN) / appointment number.
Note: It is no longer necessary to take a printout of the application receipt. An SMS with your visit details is also accepted as proof of appointment during the visit to the Passport Office.
- Visit the Passport Service Center (PSK) / Regional Passport Office (RPO) where the appointment has been booked, along with the original documents. Official Link: www.passportindia.gov.in
Note:
Only emergency / medical cases and preapproved categories can visit the Passport Service Center without an appointment. Service will be provided at the discretion of the Passport Service Center in-charge / Passport Officer.
In case of minor applicants (under 4 years of age), keep the latest passport-size photograph (4.5 X 3.5 cm) with white background.
Types of Passport in India:
Regular Passport (Blue Cover): This is the most common type of passport issued to ordinary Indian citizens for ordinary travel, such as tourism, business, or education.
Official Passport (White Cover): This type of passport is issued to individuals representing the Indian government on official business.
Diplomatic Passport (Maroon Cover): Diplomatic passports are issued to Indian diplomats and high-ranking government officials to facilitate travel on official diplomatic missions.
Emergency Certificate (EC): An Emergency Certificate is a one-way travel document that is issued to Indian nationals in case of an emergency, like the loss of a passport.
Identity Certificate: This is a travel document issued to Tibetan refugees, stateless persons, and certain individuals who are not eligible for a passport.
Jumbo Passport: The Jumbo passport is a larger-sized passport booklet with additional pages for frequent travelers who need more space for visas.

What are the requirements for getting a passport in India?
It’s advised to carry original and tone-attested clones of parents’ passports to Passport Seva Kendra( PSK), in case of parents retain their passports. For minor aspirants, documents can be attested by parents. The minor aspirant is eligible for Non-ECR till he attains the age of 18 times.
How long does it take to get a passport in India?
When a normal operation is filed, the passport is issued to the aspirant within 30- 45 days while if the operation is made under the Tatkaal mode, the passport is issued within 7- 14 days.

As an aspirant, you only need to pay a regular passport figure while paying online. still, once your operation for a passport under the Tatkal scheme is accepted, you must pay the Tatkal freights in cash at Passport Seva Kendra or Passport Office.
